We held the first meeting of the year at the moorlands hotel – we was looking at using the moorlands as we thought we could use the upstairs room for our demonstrations – we are looking at using a projector to show our members and demos so we are not all crammed around a monitor or laptop. Im not sure they can accommodate as the room we wanted use is a bit cold and the heating is broke which is a shame really as its the ideal place for meetings. Ill have to talk to the owners to see if we would be able to use the room later in the year when it gets warmer as we prefer somewhere a bit more private…. anyway set off around 6.30 with my mate steve who was coming for his first linux meeting. We walked up so walked into the bobbin for a pint and then into subway!!
Got to the meeting for just after seven and phil and stephen was sat waiting – shortly after getting a pint andy came with his large bag for the demo and not so long after Dave S came which was good to see!
shortly followed by Dave L and erin and later on after the demo mark dropped in to see us – so nine members is a great turn out for the new year! anyway we talked about joomla and also talked about joomla editors and resizing images to make them more optimised for websites which after poking round i found gthumb does this and it will do a batch file resize which is what we wanted.
We talked about digital tv cards for linux and drivers to run the hauppauge card. Me and dave talked about a project he has been working on using debian linux box running as weather server which outputs weather graphs to a webserver which was pretty interesting. We talked about the google sync with mobile phone which we have instructions on our FAQ and that the step by step faq works which is good news. We then was rudely interrupted by a guy who was intoxicated in one of our general conversations about a online group he left after a minute which was good as he really didnt know what he was talking about im afraid. We moved onto the demo which andy ran which was a home mode drum he had put together which senses were you hit it and it generates sounds in different places this runs through a program to generate the sounds which then connects to the jack server so you can send the midi events and sounds it generates to were you require!! he is looking at putting these kits together to sell so if you would like one please send a message on the online form or join the mailing lists. We had some other random conversations about linux and then all dispersed our own ways – Great meeting a great start for the new year.

I decided to drop the two mailing list links on the main links and added one link with the two mailing list information and links and more information on membership!! the linux user group website is taking shape nicely – also made some changes after a conversation with richard stallman.

Today ive got fired in and got quite a lot done for the lug here is the daily list!
Ive managed to organise a meeting with the lady required for the local workshops we are looking at running for this friday and might have a new meeting place setup that will accommodate the new years workshops and the use of a projector! ill follow up on this…
On the website side – ive installed the event manager that will have a full years outline on internal workshops we will be running. Ive also setup the lugs own blog which im blogging to now and chucked to together a similar theme to the original site its not perfect but hey there is plenty of time for that later!.. Ive connected the blog to twitter and identi.ca so when I blog the minutes and other news it automatically posts to the two services.
Ive outlined the next years workshops and mailed them out to the rest of the lug hopefully get some input! then i can post the events to the new events module on the lug website for the new year.
